Delta says its Asda-A3 servo drives are ideal for robotics

Delta says its Asda-A3 series of AC servo drives are designed for applications that require high-speed response, high precision and smooth motion.
Delta claims the drive’s built-in motion capabilities are “perfect” for machine tools, electronics manufacturing, robotics and packaging/printing/textile machinery.
The company added that the Asda-A3 benefits from an absolute encoder feature that provides excellent performance and a 3.1 kHz frequency response.
This not only reduces setup time, but also greatly increases productivity at 24-bit resolution.
That is 16,777,216 pulses/revolution, or 46,603 pulses for 1 degree.Notch filters for resonance and vibration suppression functions contribute to smooth machine operation.
User-friendly software with a graphical interface and auto-tuning minimizes commissioning time and simplifies implementation.
In addition, the compact design of the Asda-A3 series servo drives greatly reduces the installation space and facilitates arrangement in the control cabinet.
The ASDA-A3 also includes advanced motion control features such as E-CAM (well configured for flying shears and rotary shears) and 99 sophisticated PR control modes for flexible single-axis motion.
Asda-A3 provides a new vibration suppression function and easy-to-use editing Asda-Soft configuration software for users to quickly complete the servo self-tuning function.
When applying highly elastic mechanisms such as belts, the Asda-A3 stabilizes the process, allowing users to set up their machines with less stabilization time.
The new servo drives include automatic notch filters for resonance suppression, searching for resonances in less time to prevent machine damage (5 sets of notch filters with adjustable bandwidth and frequency bands up to 5000 Hz).
In addition, the system diagnostic function can calculate the stiffness of the machine through the viscous friction coefficient and spring constant.
Diagnostics provide conformance testing of equipment settings and provide wear condition data across time spans to identify changes in machines or aging equipment to help provide ideal settings.
It also ensures fully closed loop control for positioning accuracy and eliminating backlash effects.Designed for CanOpen and DMCNet with built-in STO (Safe Torque Off) function (certification pending).
When STO is activated, the motor power will be cut off.The Asda-A3 is 20% smaller than the A2, which means less installation space.
Asda-A3 drives support a variety of servo motors.It ensures a backward compatible design of the motor for future replacements.
The ECM-A3 series servo motor is a high-precision permanent magnet AC servo motor, which can be used with the 200-230 V Asda-A3 AC servo driver, and the power is optional from 50 W to 750 W.
Motor frame sizes are 40 mm, 60 mm and 80 mm.Two motor models are available: ECM-A3H high inertia and ECM-A3L low inertia, rated at 3000 rpm.The maximum speed is 6000 rpm.
ECM-A3H has a maximum torque of 0.557 Nm to 8.36 Nm and ECN-A3L has a maximum torque of 0.557 Nm to 7.17 Nm
It can also be combined with Asda-A3 220 V series servo drives in the power range from 850 W to 3 kW.Available frame sizes are 100mm, 130mm and 180mm.
Optional torque ratings of 1000 rpm, 2000 rpm and 3000 rpm, maximum speeds of 3000 rpm and 5000 rpm, and maximum torques of 9.54 Nm to 57.3 Nm.
