Planetary gearboxes :
are particular components made up of straight toothed cylindrical gears for the transmission of motion and power.
They consist of a pinion (solar) positioned inside the reducer, connected to a series of gears inserted (planetary) in an external toothed crown. The sun wheel is driven by a motor and transmits its movement to the surrounding planetary wheels, effectively guaranteeing the maximum precision of this type of gearbox.

The characteristic of a strain wave gear is that large delays are possible. Within the same dimensions where a gear pair or a planetary gear mechanism allows for 10 to 1 reductions, a harmonic drive allows for more than 300 to 1 delays. Because a large part of the teeth participate in the power transfer and because a very large reduction transmission is possible, the strain wave gear is very compact, robust, backlash-free and maintenance-free.
The harmonic drive has applications in robotic arms, aerospace, flight simulators and parabolic antennas.
